Community Development is a powerful approach that empowers communities to take control of their own development and create positive change. It is a dynamic process that requires collaboration, commitment and a focus on social justice and human rights.
Child Aid is a holistic programme aimed at mobilizing children, families and the community at large to strengthen their income, health and security. Child Aid is our main approach to integrated community development.
The main objective is to improve living conditions so that children can grow up health and reach their full potential in life. The Child Aid concept engages children, adolescents, parents, teachers, health workers, local leadership and other key players in the community to foster ownership and sustainability, by creating effective linkages with the government, community and partners.

Empowering Communities & Community Based Organizations to promote Gender Equality and fight Gender Based Violence is one of our Community
Development projects which contributes to the Governments’ efforts to putting an end to Gender Based Violence and promote Gender Equality by;
Through this project, local leadership in the community have shown their commitment as they are actively involved in project activities facilitated by our project staff. To ensure strengthened relationships and collaboration, the leadership have engaged stakeholders in their communities to support in tackling GBV; including the Gender Affairs department, Botswana Police Service as well as the Department of Social and Community Development.
Child Aid Phikwe is devoted to creating a better life for children and offer support to those children that are facing hardships due to poverty. The project brings people together to take action in their lives and address all the challenges of development. The projects aims to build capacity of families and their communities to work towards the common goal of improving their children’s’ lives.
Child Aid Phikwe operates along the 10 concept lines anchored around Village Action Groups.
Total Community Mobilisation (TCM) on HIV and AIDS started in 2001. Child Aid Phikwe took over in 2006. From 2010, the focus was strengthening the economy of the families and assisting Orphans and Vulnerable Children. Due to this work for many years, BCL mine built a new big resource centre owned by Humana People to People. The Japanese Embassy supported the facility with IT equipment for skills trainings. In 2020, the work continued with current activities. In January 2020, Child Aid Phikwe started to implement Communities Acting Together to Fight Gender Based Violence and Discrimination project and TB in the Mines (TIMS). To date, we continue implementing different project activities at the centre to ensure creating a better life for children and offer support to those facing hardships.

Child Aid Ghanzi is anchored around the 10 concept lines. Humana People to People started in Ghanzi as a HOPE project in 2007.
In 2010, it changed into Child Aid together with 3 000 families and communities with focus on the Orphans and Vulnerable Children. The project supports families to uplift their own lives and ensure a protective and safe environment for children.
The project in 2017 added a computer skills centre to assist women in business to market their products.
In 2018, the project expanded its health work to focus more on dangers of tobacco use as well as HIV interventions for adolescent girls and young women.

Climate change is a significant environmental issue characterised by long-term shifts in temperature and weather patterns, primarily driven by human activities like burning fossil fuels. These changes lead to a range of environmental and societal impacts, including more frequent and intense extreme weather events, rising sea levels and disruptions to ecosystems and human well-being.
Our Environment and Climate change program supports communities to adapt to climate change. We support communities with the knowledge and skills on how to address climate change in their communities and ways of adapting to the situation. We encourage communities to form groups where they share information and support each other in identifying problems and finding solutions.
The community works closely with relevant stakeholders like the Agriculture offices, Farmers associations as well as the community leaders.
